Clever Clogs Pre-School
1.12 Attendance Policy
Policy Statement
Clever Clogs Pre-School is committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating experience for all children. Regular attendance is a key part of supporting children’s learning, development and emotional security. This policy sets out our expectations, procedures and the responsibilities of parents/carers to ensure that children attend regularly.
Definition:
Attendance refers to the regular and consistent presence of a child at our pre-school during their agreed sessions. Absence includes any time a child is not present for those sessions.
Purpose:
The purpose of this policy is to:
• Support children’s well-being, development and learning.
• Promote good habits of regular attendance from an early age.
• Help identify any patterns of absence that may require additional family support.
• Ensure clear communication between families and the pre-school regarding attendance expectations.
Our Expectations
We expect children to attend their scheduled sessions regularly and punctually. Parents/carers are responsible for ensuring their child's attendance. If a child is unable to attend, parents/carers must notify us as soon as possible.
Monitoring Attendance
The pre-school keeps accurate attendance records for all children, as required by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Patterns of absence are monitored to ensure children’s welfare is supported and to identify if early help or intervention may be appropriate.
If concerns arise regarding a child's attendance or there is a notable drop in attendance, the manager will contact the parent/carer to discuss and offer support where necessary. Persistent concerns may be escalated following safeguarding procedures.
Reporting Absences
Parents/carers must notify the pre-school by phone or text on or before the morning of the absence. The reason for the absence must be clearly stated and the pre-school will log the absence for our records. If we are not informed of the absence, we will contact the parents/carers - if we cannot reach the parents/carers we will call the emergency contact(s) on the childs records. If we are unable to make contact for a prolonged period of time or we have concerns about the child's welfare, we will follow our safeguarding procedures.
